Senryu

Similar to Haiku, but not about nature, Senryu is about human emotions, usually darkly humorous or sarcastic. Not as formal as Haiku, and no Kigo (season word) needed, but basically the same; three lines, seventeen syllables.
L1 = 5 syllables
L2 = 7 syllables
L3 = 5 syllables





no shouting or screams
we finish with a whimper
mere silence remains





A Constant Buzz
an annoying buzz
is driving me up the wall
will she ever hush?!
 






Garbage
lighters flickering
rocking the night --- engulfed in
color of Garbage





Fallout
our cold war fever ~
missile bunkers, bomb shelters ~
raining hydrogen







Battle Plan
flawed battle plan called
for a charge through the valley
the light brigade died







Anchorless
anchorless
I drift on a
sea of doubt.





Offering
eyes darker than her ~
areola ... enigma ~
Christmas offering





Black Friday
black Friday excess
overwhelms thanksgiving with
inhumanity





the art of haiku ~
is difficult ... afflatus ~
can be hard to find!




his bald-faced attempt
at embracery poisoned
the entire jury





sun in window ~
falls on brush and comb ~
my bald pate



Enticing Curves

Her enticing curves ~
Excite, a swelling of loins ~
Delight for the mind.



She smiled, thanked her friend ~
He blushed, grinned at his true love ~
Never the twain...!




My soul sings solo ~
wishing for someone whose heart ~
beats in tune with mine.







conquered by passion ~
he lingered, hoped for her touch ~
yearned for new fever


she lays on my chest ~
so near I feel her exhales ~
'feed me now', she purrs







The angels wept ~
at his insolence ~
god's angry ape.





fix your smile ~
life has given you all ~
death demands receipt





ego dreams of self ~ 
humbling nightmare sky scape ~
the milky way





as I age, death looms ~
beyond is a mystery ~
no one has returned.
 





we bloomed in late spring ~
felt the passion of summer ~
autumn leaves succumb







the baseball playoffs ~
year's most exciting season ~
harvest of delight



an unfinished life ~
listening to detractors ~
wasted precious time





she said adios ~
in a much more brutal way ~
things fall apart - Keats







very near sleeping ~
feel the heartbeat in my breast ~
suddenly anxious






daily monsoon rain ~
cricket in its tiny cage ~
sings to girl's delight



stroll down any street ~
innocuous cameras ~
big brother watches








young couple jogging ~
pass old man with cane, walking ~
wistful gaze follows







hero and villain ~
victim and miscreant ~
life truthfully told

 





War ~
The dead haunt ~
My memories.

Leaves turn red and brown ~

I am me ~
Perfectly imperfect ~

Words cannot be held ~
Sentences fling themselves ~
The ether flows...






Navy blue and red ~
Erect, white gloved, and proud ~
Marine!

Memories of gods ~
So institutionalized ~
Ingrained in our souls.



Center cannot hold ~
Things fall apart.      Yeats perceived ~
Metamorphosis



Power fades, then fails ~
Stunned, mankind stumbles, confused ~
Despair, the new age.



One touches another ~
So much more than common warmth ~
The feel      nonpareil.

addict's denial~
A river in Egypt~
Is more forthcoming.





Confusion hinders ~
I love, hate, and obfuscate ~
Life is so muddled.










Wounded warriors ~
Conquer challenges every day ~
Their courage awes me.







Life in afterlife ~
Oh so unpalatable ~
And hot as hades!

So joyous, loved ones surround ~
Wrapped in the Lord's grace.







I dreamt of corsairs ~
Swashbuckling, cutlasses flash ~
Life of a pirate!








His plans were foiled ~
The lovers he imagined ~
Ashes in his mind.



When I dream of you ~
I live.      When I wake alone ~
Lost, lonely heart cries.




Elysium ~
rest heroic warriors ~
chosen of the gods.






Night! Stars! Reflection! ~
All is clearer, less cluttered ~
Crystalline insights





Accepts praise humbly ~
Could she but lavish others ~
All would be perfect.




Bubbly bath ~
No bubble bath ~
Conclusion?







Moyes leads United ~
On the pitch at Old Trafford ~
Kicks some Chelsea ass!










A smile means summer ~
The result of frowns, winter ~
Please treat others well.





Our enemy is fear ~
The reward for its defeat ~
Is jubilation.








Struggling to survive ~
When, with a single mail call ~
Your Dear John crushed me!










Coffin down the stairs ~
Basement dark and dangerous ~
Scary, ain't it?!


Stood at the edge~
Gazed into the abyss~
Something dark stared back!







Saw rat
Jumped on chair
No mouseketeer here!












Life thrown away
Cold palm gave death's hand
High five!


Christians and Muslims
interparochially
despise each other!


Thinks himself kind~
Others scratch heads~
Not quite sure!







I was mean~
I was average~
How neutral!





A sexual slave~
Kills her inhuman captor~
Poetic justice





Empty mind,
empty heart,
Depressing, ain't it?!







Slouch toward it or rush ~
Death will have you in its time ~
Your desire means naught!









If she is hirsute ~
and her fellow is glabrous ~
Twixt them they're odd.
